Syed Munawar Hassan, Ameer (Chief) Jamaat-e-Islami, while expressing his views on Karachi’s unrest and the recovery of illegal weapons, stated that India is dispatching arms and money to Pakistan.
Ameer Jamaat e Islami, Syed Munawar Hasan while addressing the congregation at Mansoora on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, said Karachi has become a hotbed for illegal weapons, and that money is flowing into the city, deteriorating law and order in Pakistan’s economic hub.
He said he was amazed at the contradiction that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seemed eager to grant India the status of the Most Favorite Nation (MFN) at the same time he said India had been actively supporting - with arms and money - insurgencies in Pakistan.
Truth Tracker contacted JI’s leader Liaquat Baloch to confirm Hassan’s statement. Baloch asserted that Syed Munawar Hassan was correct, and that his view was in line with views expressed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan while hearing a case about Karachi’s security situation. He said that there was no doubt that India was supplying weapons and money to non-state actors in Pakistan which is creating a mess in Karachi.
While talking to Truth Tracker, Tariq Azeem, a senior leader of the ruling PML-N also agreed with the statement saying, “There is truth in the statement. It is basically a tit-for-tat situation. Obviously, they can not make a confession publicly about their sheer involvement but they admit privately during back channel negotiations.” He continued, “India’s interference in Karachi and Balochistan is quite evident. We can not deny their presence. Since Karachi is an economic hub, they are disturbing us the most economically. They (Indians) say that Pakistan is lingering in Kashmir and bothering us about that issue. So, in retaliation, our only choice is to meddle in their domestic affairs.”
Khurram Sher Zaman, member of the Sindh Assembly from PTI, said he agreed with JI’s Ameer’s view saying, “That is absolutely true. For a very long time, India and the West have been sending weapons that deteriorate the situation in Pakistan. The chief example is the saga of East Pakistan. I think it’s a very strong and serious statement given by JI chief which should be given utmost heed. If a person like him, of his great experience and background, has a certain sense about these things then there may be little truth in it.”
Speaking to Truth Tracker by phone, Brig. (retd) Ghazanfar said, “The Indian hand is definitely involved in Karachi, Balochistan and North and South Waziristan. A huge cache of Indian weapons were recovered during the operation in Karachi.” He said India must have smuggled weapons through back channels. He said Hassan’s statement was true and that the government should pay attention to the issue.
Arshi Saleem Hashmi, an associate professor at National Defense University and a security analyst, told Truth Tracker, “It’s not new for any political party or religion based political party to play with people’s emotions through such statements. We can not really say anything about the truth in this statement as India has always been the focus of our political narrative. Parties and governments find it easy to come up with anti-India statements and get some attention. Religious parties often do this, as they see the relationship between the countries through the prism of good and evil and not rationally.”
She continued, “Having said that, it is true to some extent that India and Pakistan have long interfered in each other’s countries. So, we can not rule out completely Indian agencies being involved in some dirty work that is affecting Pakistan’s internal security, as now a number of statements by Indian former military officers, including the former Indian army chief, have openly mentioned the tasks given to RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) (India’s intelligence agency) to create problems within Pakistan. But we do not have to forget that if the state is strong from inside, nobody can do anything against it,” she further said.
An Article published in Dawn newspaper chronicles RAW’s involvement in Balochistan and elsewhere.
It can be accessed at:

A former Indian Army Chief also supported these allegations and his video that reveals India’s involvement in Pakistan’s internal affairs can be accessed at:

Based on the aforementioned viewpoints and the facts this article revealed, Truth Tracker can deduce that India is interfering in Pakistan’s internal affairs and, in a way, destabilizing Pakistan. Therefore, Truth Tracker rules Munawar Hassan’s statement is mostly true.
